Are You Choosing Wisdom?
Good Morning,
Made any poor decisions lately? Said something you regret? Treated someone in a way that doesn’t honor Christ? Been impatient, intentionally stupid or set wisdom aside for folly?
There are times when we can all be prone to behaving unwisely. Scripture offers some insight on how we can act with more discernment. It involves an act of the will. It also involves reading, contemplating and applying priceless Biblical wisdom. I define wisdom as the ability to apply what you know is true. Consider these words:
My child listen to what I say and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of God.
For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. Prov. 2:1-9
Notice all the action words in that passage (I’ve put them in italics). We have the ability, through the truth of God’s Word and the power of the Holy Spirit to not act stupidly. It takes a desire to grow, live with the long view in mind and a willful decision to be prudent. For the most part, I think we do dumb things in full view of their imprudence. We just do them anyway. The real question is will we choose to act wisely with great intention? If we do, our lives will be filled with more calm than calamity, and more delight than debacles. And that sounds like a far better life.
Are you choosing wisdom this morning?
