Fully Known
Good Morning,
One of the biggest things people long for is to be known and understood. Interestingly, it is also the very thing that many people fear. For to be fully known means nothing is hidden. The good, bad, and ugly are exposed. Your hurts of the past and your deepest longings for the future are no longer secrets.
This can obviously be a bit scary in human terms. But the beauty and power of Scripture proclaims that God knows all this and calls you His son or daughter anyway. None of it impacts how He feels about you or loves you. In the hands of a God less sovereign and loving such knowledge would be distressing. But in the hands of our God who sent His one and only Son to demonstrate just how much He loves and adores us, this knowledge brings deep peace. Examine the following verses from Psalm 139: 1-6 (NLT).
O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!
In the presence of such a God we are free to commune freely with Him. We are free to be completely ourselves and live to please Him first and foremost. While we do our best to navigate life this side of heaven, our successes or setbacks in life do not define us. Nor can they diminish our worth in the slightest.
We are liberated from rising and falling based on the opinions of others. The chains of trying to be good enough so God notices us are broken. The shame of our sin becomes lost in divine love and acceptance. When we begin to understand that the GREAT I AM is for us we can live with new confidence and expectancy. He is our biggest advocate.
Is the knowledge that you are fully known and accepted by God changing how you approach today? If not, how might it?
Questions and statements to ponder:
1. Are there things you feel shame about that you need to release to the God who already knows them?
2. How might the awareness that God knows you and accepts you just like you are, give you confidence for facing life’s challenges?
