Paths Take You Places
Good Morning,
Over the next several weeks we are going to be very pragmatic in our consideration of the paths we are on in life. This impacts our personal, professional, family and spiritual lives. We will be using as a framework for thought, the fantastic book The Principle of the Path, by Andy Stanley. I strongly encourage you to get a copy and read it. None of the concepts in the book are revolutionary. In fact, you may find them obvious and intuitive. They do however, bring to light a principle that is ignored by millions of people every day to their detriment and the detriment of those around them.
We are all on paths in life. We are on these paths not because someone forced us to be on them, but because we chose them. The fact is, all these paths lead somewhere and nearly always to a destination predictable and known. This principle is true whether you realize it or not. It is true whether you agree with it or not. That, you don’t get to choose.
How often do you hear someone say (and have probably said yourself), “I’m not sure how I ended up at this place in my life?” Or, the shorter version, “I didn’t see this coming”. The reality is that in almost every case you couldhave seen it coming. The reason you ended up where you did is because you were on the path that was taking you there.
In no way do I want to minimize difficulties we all face. They are real. Still, the sobering truth is that we create many of them by the roads we chose to get on. It is extremely important that we understand that if we want to get to Colorado from Indiana we must go west. We cannot get on a road to New York and then be surprised when we don’t arrive in the Rocky Mountains. All the good intentions we have to get to Colorado don’t matter. Only the direction (path or road) that we take matters.
Every Monday Morning Minute closes with the encouragement to live life on purpose. Part of what I mean by that is that we need to make decisions and choose paths with our eyes wide open. Life does have surprises, but I’m convinced that we should be surprised much less frequently than we are.
Let’s journey together into discovering the principle of the path and how it can transform our lives. What exactly is the principle you ask? Tune in next week to find out.
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths. Ps. 25:4
Live this week on purpose,
