Promises for Living

Good Morning,

We often hear preachers talk about the promises of God and how wonderful they are. I have done so myself.  I wonder though, if for too many of us they are not much more than nice ideas or impersonal theology.  The times we do seem to lean into God’s promises are those times when we really need to.  In the hard seasons of life, we are much more prone to paying attention to the truths found in Scripture.  I think we miss out on some joy in life by not regularly “tuning in” to the character of God reflected in the promises he makes.  

Charles Spurgeon once said, "O man, I beseech you, do not treat God's promises as if they were curiosities for a museum; but believe them and use them." 

I want to list some of these Divine affirmations this morning and encourage you to ponder the foundation they provide for living an abundant, grounded life.

• But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Is. 40:31
• Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7
• The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deut. 31:8
• He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. Ps. 103:10
• Nothing can separate us from the love of God; absolutely nothing. Rom. 8:38-39
• Our redemption is sealed for eternity. Eph. 4:30
• He sets our feet on a rock and gives us a firm place to stand.  Ps. 40
• The Lord delivers us from fear, hears us when we call, and sends His angels to surround us.  Ps. 34
• God’s love and faithfulness endure forever. Ps. 100:5
• Jesus Himself is our peace. Eph. 2:14
• God promises wisdom for living. James 1:5
