The Price of Comfort
[et_pb_section admin_label="section"][et_pb_row admin_label="row"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text admin_label="Text"] Good Morning,After leaving Egypt behind during the Great Exodus, the Israelites experienced an extended rollercoaster ride of sorts. On the positive side, they saw God do mighty - literally miraculous, things including parting the Red Sea, being fed by mana from heaven and receiving water out of a rock. They also experienced difficulties including hunger, thirst, and the terror of facing significant military foes.During this long period, they developed a bad habit. When life got hard they complained and begged to go back to Egypt. Lest you have forgotten, they were slaves in Egypt. Why would anyone want to leave a life of freedom for slavery? I have a theory and it is this: They knew how to be slaves and they were good at it. It was in some ways very comfortable for them. So even though God was calling them to new life, the lure of the status quo was hard to shake. The Israelites had bought into a lie that we ourselves can easily buy into – that comfort should be a primary goal of life. God was saying to them, “I want to give you your own land rich in milk and honey. I want to give you freedom, growth and liberation like you have not seen in centuries. You will conquer Kings and rout mighty armies.” And the people responded, “That’s just too hard.”The trouble is that a life based on comfort equals a small life. You will never experience the growth you desire. You will never fully see the power of God working through you. You will never make the impact you say you desire and never experience the fullness of life you long for. The price of that kind of living is much too high. It will eventually leave you with years of regret and a life underlived. Is that really what you want?God is out front. He is calling you to a journey and a life He has dreamed of for you since before the creation of the world (Eph. 2:10). Will you have the courage to step out of your comfort zone and move forward? Is today the day you begin to leave your personal Egypt behind? I urge you to do so.
