Your Time is Now!
Good Morning,
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Ps. 139:16
Have you ever run into someone you have not seen in a long time in a completely random place at a completely random time? I remember being in Alaska several years ago, waiting in line for a bus tour and I heard the people in front of me start talking about our hometown in Indiana; at that time a town of less than 1000 people. My wife and I couldn’t resist striking up a conversation and to our amazement this person’s mother did the flowers at our wedding in 1978! How amazing to be in a bus line, 4000 miles from home, at that exact time.
Some instances of ironic timing are fortuitous. You happen to be in need of a job, and you run into someone at the coffee shop who has just the job opening you have been looking for. Other instances are more lamentable. In reading a book about Abraham Lincoln and the search for John Wilkes Booth, I learned that Lincoln, sensing the need for better security, established the Secret Service…on the day he was assonated.
It is popular in some belief systems, to give credit for these instances of perfect timing in our lives to the “universe”. A belief that what is happening out there somewhere determines the course of my days and my life. Sorry, but that is more implausible and impersonal than I can get my intellect around. It is in fact, just plain wrong. According to inerrant Scripture the days of our lives have been ordained (a holy, divine ordering) by God Himself. God has been thinking about you since before the creation of the world (Eph. 2). The day you were born was a day of rejoicing in heaven, because your incredible time in history was being launched.
What a joy to know that we are not only not random, but divinely crafted and placed here by the Creator of all things – including the universe. I like to put it this way:
God has you on this earth, in this place, at this time - - on purpose!
How could embracing that truth give you new purpose and hope for the year ahead?
